Trying to operate a sustainable, regenerative, profitable cattle ranch comes with many rewards and challenges. To address some of the challenges I find it helpful to sometimes ask "What would Burke Teichert do?" This is a typical scene for an evening with a few of our South Poll Cows. We began using South Poll bulls exclusively in our herd in 2012. We calve in April-May, so we need something heat tolerant for the summer breeding season of July and August. Kentucky 31 Tall Fescue is the majority of our grass base which places extra heat stress on cattle due to the endophyte toxicity, but our South Poll cattle handle it in stride.
"Carbon negative" is the reduction of an entity's carbon footprint to less than neutral, so that the entity in question has a net effect of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere rather than adding it. “it is possible that long-term [adaptive multi-paddock grazing] AMP grazing finishing in the Upper Midwest could contribute considerably more to climate change mitigation and adaptation than previously thought.” |
